Milkshake Anyone? - Through The Purple Haze Bingo Challenge

They have some lovely images and the image I got given to make a card with was 'Milkshake Anyone'

As soon as I got given this I knew exactly what papers I was going to use and started on a hunt in my craft drawers for a free recipe book kit I got with a magazine a few months ago.  I use the papers with Kraft Card to mat and layer, then made a little recipe card for Oreo Milkshake (my husbands favourite). It went to so well with this image.

For the 'bingo' side of the challenge I used flowers (bottom right hand corner), sentiment/greeting (Happiness is Homemade) and of course the doily behind the digi stamp which went so well with this project.

2 Pairs of PJ Bottoms Made!

Finally got round to making the second (and third) pair of pj bottoms from The Great British Sewing Bee book I got last year. I made a pair for my Dad last year and got enough fabric to make Lee a pair but didn't get round to cutting them out. I also found I had some pink gingham material folded at the bottom of my fabric bag so decided to make myself a cropped version (so I don't trip over them) and also thought they'd been nice and cool for Florida. 

Here are the finished items!

As I said I made mine a bit shorter so they're a cropped length. I was worried making them as the patterns are S, M, L, XL and I had no idea what sizes they were. I made XL and they fit my bum and are a bit roomy so it's probably about a size 18 (I hate tight pjs to sleep in so they're perfect)

I'm going to make a matching shirring top to go with them probably next weekend (first attempt!)

I also tacked together the dress I'm making ready to take to my mums to check the fit before I commit to sewing on the machine.

Off to relax in my new pjs - tomorrow's task is to patch up hubby's work jeans (only had them 3 or 4 weeks after buying from Tesco!)

Digital Elements - Through The Purple Haze Challenge

Rather than just cut out the elements as they were, I decided to print two of the same sheets on matt photo paper so that I could add another layer to the background and make the purple band and backing more of a feature. I also got out my can of iridescent spray and sparkle and sprayed the purple back layer, her hat, shoes, pink top and jeans for added glitz (I masked off the jacket to glitter just the pink top)

I then cut out the sentiments and layered them in a star like pattern , using the 'Happy Birthday' for the top (I actually originally printed on centura pearl but it didn't give the look I wanted so the back two squares are actually on centura pearl so fainter)

I finished off with some gems from Kaisercraft in the bottom right corner. 

I really liked making this and although I added extra layers (there are six in total) the foam squares used were in varying thickness and do squash down so its not bulky.

I also made a card using an image from our other sponsor, Milk Coffee Stamps. I chose a sweet fairy with a cupcake. 

I brought a lucky dip of scrapbook papers from Affix Crafts a few weeks ago and inside my pack I had this lovely cupcake print sheet which also had the border (used at the bottom). The paper is matte with shiny cupcakes. I added a Kaisercraft tag and added a sentiment I cut on my Cricut Mini. I added in some flowers I cut and decorated the center with some shiny beads (I forgot when I took the picture but the glue hadn't completely dried when I took the photo but it dried clear after a little while). The spoon on the image is silver foiled so it looks lovely and shiny in the flesh - and I also added glitter detail to the wings to give a bit of sparkle.

Male Birthday Card Using Free Cricut Cut

I needed to make a card for my husbands grandad and remembered sewing a pint glass on the St Patricks Day cartridge from Cricut which is currently on free cuts this week. I raided my stash and found this stary background paper from a scrapbook paper lucky dip from Affix Crafts. I cut the drink using black card, Snow White Centura pearl card and kraft card. 

A simple yet effective card. 

My Next Sewing Project

Agh The Great British Sewing Bee has a lot to answer for! After my Wednesday morning viewing of last nights episode I want to make clothes desperately! Last week I ended up making a cushion cover and this week I've decided to make a dress from a pattern I brought last year. 

This is a Simplicity pattern (1699) and looks such a lovely summery dress I think  with the current sunny weather I'll have lots of reasons to get this dress made. 

I've purchased the zip, hook and eye and interfacing and hopefully will be getting my fabric tomorrow. All I need now is a cutting table lol but the kitchen table will have to suffice. 

Having just read the pattern it looks complicated but I'm sure when I have the pieces infront of me it will make sense as the same happened with the pj trousers I made from TGBSB book.

Now just to decided tomorrow what fabric to go for! I was thinking grey or pink plain fabric but it would look lovely in a floral print (just have to ensure I pattern match ok)

Digis - Through The Purple Haze Challenge

This week the challenge theme at Through The Purple Haze is 'Digi' and the sponsor for this challenge is:

I chose the 'anime drummer' as thought it would be perfect for my brother-in-law whose 10 and got given a set of drums for Christmas by Father Christmas.

 I coloured the image with Spectrum Noir pens - not the best colouring as I was colouring this while really dizzy (in ear problem after an ear infection) so had to try and sit bold upright and not look down!  The star on his t-shirt is glitter foiled (which doesn't really show up well on the photo)

I stuck the image onto some Bazzille basics dark blue cardstock, then stuck it onto some embossed Bazille basics cardstock in a lighter blue. I went round the layers with a gold pen to give a bit of detail and then added in stars and a sentiment from my Cricut Mini.

I love Kenny K digis as they are so fun.

Finished Sewing Projects!

After getting my material order this morning in the post from The Makery (see previous post) I set about making a new cushion cover for my seat cushion. 

I also made a new cushion cover for a small cushion as the current cover got a small tear in. I unstitched the old zip to use in my new cushion which was really easy. 

I also used the small piece or fabric from the goody bag to make a cube for Spike (our Pygmy hedgehog) to play with.

I'll find out in the morning if he has played with it (he likes moving thing around at night in his cage) - update...we've not caught him with it but it's certainly being played with

It was nice playing with my sewing machine again as I haven't got it out since before Christmas. I still have some fabric left from my order and lots of fat quarters in my stash so I'm going to start some other projects and also get round to making hubby's pj trousers from the Great British Sewing Bee book (made my Dad a pair last summer but not got round to Lee's)

Sewing Goodies from The Makery!

I've been meaning to do some sewing for a while especially to make a cover for a seat cushion and another cushion in my living room but haven't got round to it however I found the loveliest fabric on The Makery website! They've just unveiled their new look website and are giving away goodie bags with every order this weekend.

I chose this pretty fabric, ordered it yesterday and it arrived this morning along with a lovely little bag of goodies including buttons, ribbon and fabric. With the fabric I think I'll make Spike (my hedgehog) a little soft cube to play with as the fabrics just the right size. 

The fabric I purchased is so lovely and would make a lovely summery dress or skirt too! Tempted to buy some more....

I love the funky fabrics available at The Makery and their amazing button table (I really must book a visit to Bath again soon). I wish it was closer as they have so many great workshops (I especially like the idea of their skirt workshop)
