Digital Elements - Through The Purple Haze Challenge

This week the challenge theme at Through The Purple Haze is 'Digital Elements'. The sponsors for this challenge are:

and

Milk Coffee Stamps

http://www.etsy.com/uk/people/MilkCoffee

If you go to http://www.craftsuprint.com/mailing.cfm you can sign up to their mailing list and get access to four freebies. I chose to make a card with the pink and purple girly kit.

Rather than just cut out the elements as they were, I decided to print two of the same sheets on matt photo paper so that I could add another layer to the background and make the purple band and backing more of a feature. I also got out my can of iridescent spray and sparkle and sprayed the purple back layer, her hat, shoes, pink top and jeans for added glitz (I masked off the jacket to glitter just the pink top)

I then cut out the sentiments and layered them in a star like pattern , using the 'Happy Birthday' for the top (I actually originally printed on centura pearl but it didn't give the look I wanted so the back two squares are actually on centura pearl so fainter)

I finished off with some gems from Kaisercraft in the bottom right corner.

I really liked making this and although I added extra layers (there are six in total) the foam squares used were in varying thickness and do squash down so its not bulky.

I also made a card using an image from our other sponsor, Milk Coffee Stamps. I chose a sweet fairy with a cupcake.

I brought a lucky dip of scrapbook papers from Affix Crafts a few weeks ago and inside my pack I had this lovely cupcake print sheet which also had the border (used at the bottom). The paper is matte with shiny cupcakes. I added a Kaisercraft tag and added a sentiment I cut on my Cricut Mini. I added in some flowers I cut and decorated the center with some shiny beads (I forgot when I took the picture but the glue hadn't completely dried when I took the photo but it dried clear after a little while). The spoon on the image is silver foiled so it looks lovely and shiny in the flesh - and I also added glitter detail to the wings to give a bit of sparkle.

Digis - Through The Purple Haze Challenge

This week the challenge theme at Through The Purple Haze is 'Digi' and the sponsor for this challenge is:

I chose the 'anime drummer' as thought it would be perfect for my brother-in-law whose 10 and got given a set of drums for Christmas by Father Christmas.

I coloured the image with Spectrum Noir pens - not the best colouring as I was colouring this while really dizzy (in ear problem after an ear infection) so had to try and sit bold upright and not look down!  The star on his t-shirt is glitter foiled (which doesn't really show up well on the photo)

I stuck the image onto some Bazzille basics dark blue cardstock, then stuck it onto some embossed Bazille basics cardstock in a lighter blue. I went round the layers with a gold pen to give a bit of detail and then added in stars and a sentiment from my Cricut Mini.
I love Kenny K digis as they are so fun.

Embossing - Through The Purple Haze Challenge #29

This weeks challenge at Through The Purple Haze is Embossing.

The sponsor for this challenge is:

I've actually made two cards this week - one with dry embossing and one using heat embossing.

Dry Embossing Card

I made this card using my own hand-made embossing sheet (you can see how to do this on my last blog post.) I embossed some core-dinations card stock and layered it onto some already embossed Bazille Basics pink card. I added Tilda ribbon and this lovely digi from Polkadoodle Etsy shop - it's so sweet! I coloured this using my Spectrum Noir pens. The sentiment was part of the digi and I just stamped a doily stamp over the top so it wasn't on stark white card.

Heat Embossing Card
I decided to go for 'heat embossing' as I have the tools but don't do it much (mostly because it use to be such a pain to plug in my heat tool before I re-arranged it). My card is quite differet to my normal colour pallette but I decided to use things which I don't usually use and step out of my comfort zone a bit and this is the finished card.

I used backing paper from Kaisercraft Miss Empire Collection in Realm and matted and layered using kraft card (I love that stuff but don't use it much). I then took some orangey peach coloured paper from Craft Creations and stamped on it using Versa Mark and a rose pattern stamp I got free with Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine and then I used a white embossing powder. I also stamped the roses on the same paper (but elsewhere) with Distress Ink (Tattered Rose).

I cut the stamped and embossing pieces into 3 inch squares, rounded off the corners and then added them to kraft card. I stamped a sentiment onto kraft card and heat embossed that too (the sentiment was from a Kanban Sugar Buttons stamp set).
Stamped with distress ink
Stamped and embossed

I finished the card by wrapping twine around the card twice and tying a knot.

I hope you like my cards - I'm usually more into bright cards using pinks, blues and purples but enjoyed trying something different with my heat embossing card and using bits and pieces I hadn't used in a while.

Love Is In The Air - Through The Purple Haze Challenge

This week the challenge at Through The Purple Haze Challenge Blog is Love Is In The Air and the sponsor is Sassy Studio who have given us some lovely digis to work with

I a this Princess Leia style digi. It reminded me of when I dressed up as her for a friends party with the double bun wig.....at the moment my hair is so long and thick I think I can actually get the look myself! Anyway....back to the card.
I decided to make a valentines card for my husband using this digi. I coloured it using Spectrum Noirs and as her dress and boots are white I used IG1 and IG2 to give it a bit of shadow in the folds to give it depth.

I then cut it out (very rare that I cut things out that intricately) and put her to one side.

I cut out a range of scalloped edge hearts in different sizes from glitter card and kraft card on my Cricut Mini and layered them up over to the right of the card. To save card the only heart that was full was the front heart, all the hearts are hollow so it saved wasting card. I then added 'to my husband' using text from the Wall Decor Cricut cartridge and added this to the front of the heart.

I wanted to put the digi to the left of the heart but as I had used foam squared on the heart I had to do a bit of scaffolding work on the bag of the digi stamp. I used off cuts of card and stuck foam pads to the back of the digi, added small offcuts of card, another layer of foam pads, another layer of card off cuts, foam then stuck it to the card. This makes her stand out better and she is still sturdy (luckily I don't need to post the card!)
I added some more hearts in the corner as it looked a bit bare in the bottom right.

I really love this digi and all the amazing digis at Sassy Studio especially the Disney Princess inspired digis (I loveeeee Snow White and Belle!)

Pick Your Favourite Color with Through The Purple Haze

This week the challenge from Through The Purple Haze Challenge Blog is #25 Pick Your Favourite Color.

The sponsors for this challenge are:

I used the Leather and Lace digi from Delicious Doodle. I liked the look of this image and knew it would be fun to colour with one of my favourite colours, purple. I also took the name of the digi literally and knew I had some lace and leather embellishments.

I coloured the digi with my trusty Spectrum Noir pens trying to get a leather like look on the gloves and jacket. As the colours were quite dark I added glossy accents to the bow in her hair so it has a bit of dimension and shine to it.

I wrapped some black lace around a large piece of purple co-ordinations cardstock. I cut the lace with a rotary fabric cutter so got it perfectly straight and didn't stretch it. I then matted the image onto co-ordinations card stock in a purply/pink colour to lighten the card and make the picture stand out.
I made a bow from some of the lace and added this to the corner with a tag I had from Kanban, and then added a purple gem to give a bit of shine.

Now these are leather flowers I die cut with a sizzix flower die. I had some leather off cuts and these cut so cleanly with a Sizzix Bigz die and add a lovely texture (and smell) to the card. I added liquid pearls to the center of the flowers and then stuck them on with Collall all-purple glue.

This isn't the type of card I would usually make as it's quite dark but I think it looks really good and am really pleased with how it's come out.

Polkadoodles Fairy Wings Challenge

This is my first entry ever in a craft challange. Polkadoodles challange this week is all about fairy wings and entries must feature a Angelberry digistamp, but dont worry if you dont have one as Polkadoodles are offering a randomly chosen Angelberry digistamp to send to you if you email them to take part in this challenge.

My digistamp arrived this morning and I received the Angelberry angel with tree. This looked a bit tricky given thr hairstyle with stars entwined through it but it was a good challenge (as it did challenge me).

My cutting out isn't perfect and due to the complexity of cutting this stamp out I decided I would try something different for me and put it into Craft Artist, doing all my matting and layering then printing it out to colour the image. I used the free Christmas digikits from Craft Artist and printed on nenah cardstock. One printed I coloured the image using Spectrum Noir pens and added glitter to the star going ontop of the tree and I foiled a gold belt onto the angel. I then added a bit of foiling to the corners using redliner tape and Stix2 foil, and added some gems to look a bit like brads.

I hope you like it! I had lots of fun trying something new!
